English Teaching
Information American Studies Seminar for High School English Teachers The highlight of our English teaching activities is CLASS, the U.S. Embassy’s annual week-long American Studies seminar for high school English teachers to be held in July this year. The seminar is jointly sponsored with the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Beit Yetsiv in-service training center in Beer Sheva. Participants will receive up to 56 enrichments points for full attendance. The US Embassy in Israel works with Israeli English teaching organizations and individuals in a variety of programs. We often facilitate the participation of American specialists at EFL conferences and seminars, such as English Teachers Association in Israel (ETAI) conferences. English Teaching Fellows from the U.S. work at Israeli universities and teacher training colleges under AC sponsorship. "Electronic dialogues" (live international discussion programs) on EFL-related topics between participants in Israel and other countries in the region, with experts in the U.S., organized through our offices, allow participants sitting in our premises in Israel to discuss topics of mutual interest with U.S. experts. We welcome visits and tours of our resource center and facilities by student groups and faculty of EFL-training institutes to explain our services and resources. Israeli EFL teachers may be interested in the programs offered by the American Studies Center in Salzburg Austria. These highly-competitive, intensive American Studies workshops, offer teacher workshops and conferences on curriculum development and reform, and provide on-line resources for educators and trainers to enhance teacher skills. The US Embassy in Israel facilitates Israeli participation in programs of the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminars for Secondary School Educators. These seminars, held at colleges and universities throughout the United States every summer, enable international participants to join American secondary school teachers to expand their knowledge of specific areas of U.S. studies and to interact closely with their American professional counterparts. English teaching materials produced by the International Information Programs office are available for loan and for purchase at very reasonable prices. Application forms for participation will be sent to junior high and high schools throughout the country in the coming months.
