Distinguished American Speaker SeriesProfessor Alan Dershowitzof Harvard University  As part of Ambassador Daniel C. Kurtzer's continuing "Distinguished American
Speaker Series," on Tuesday, December 23, the President of the National
Labor Court, the President of Haifa University, Members of Knesset, the
legal counsel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the head of the Israel
Bar Association listened attentively to a forty minute presentation by
Law Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard University. The discussion covered such
wide-ranging topics as the abrogation of an individual's rights in favor of
the needs of the larger society and the legal innovations found in the
Bible.  Professor Dershowitz, a renowned civil rights advocate and author, did
not shy from the tackling the most pressing legal issues facing the United
States and Israel today. His remarks showcased the vitality of U.S.
democratic institutions - and the individuals who make those institutions so
vibrant.
